Department of Precision Mechanical Engineering
After nearly 60 years of development, the department has formed a leading direction of teaching and scientific research with the distinctive feature of the integration of optics, electronics and mechanics. It has trained a large number of students and enjoyed a certain reputation at home and abroad.
It has the national first-class disciplines "Mechanical Engineering", the national key discipline "Mechatronic Engineering" and Shanghai key discipline "Precision Instruments and Machinery". It is the affiliate unit of the Institute of Precision Mechanics of the China Instrument and Control Society, the Secretariat of the Shanghai Robot Society. It has established teaching and research cooperation with many famous universities in the world.
It won the National Science and Technology Progress Award and the first prize of provincial and ministerial level many times.
There are undergraduate majors "Mechatronic Engineering", "Measurement and Control Technology & Instruments"; Master’s programs in "Mechatronic Engineering", "Precision Instruments and Machinery" and "Vehicle Engineering"; Ph.D. and Postdoctoral programs in "Mechanical Engineering". Various overseas internship programs have been established, i.e. the Nevada University Summer Practice Exchange Program, the Queen's University Summer Exchange Program, and the National University of Singapore ME3+1+1 Joint program, etc.
The cooperative relationships and innovative practice bases have been set up with dozens of large domestic groups and enterprises.
Mechatronic Engineering
(Education in Chinese)
Mechatronic Engineering is a national and also municipal key discipline in Shanghai University. It trains students to be eligible to work in fields as automobiles, robots, aviation and aerospace, and so on. It cultivates abilities to solve sophiscated mechatronic engineering problems, and also abilities of lifelong learning
Mechatronic engineers use fundamental engineering concepts and contemporary design practices to develop new devices, materials, processes and systems. As a SHU mechatronic engineering student, you will apply the principles of physics and materials science for analysis, design manufacturing and maintenance of mechanical systems, smart materials, automotive and aerospace systems, and robotics.
All SHU students must complete a common first year. Courses include: Calculus, Linear Algebra, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Programming Fundamentals, and engineering mechanics.
Upon completing first year, students may apply to the Mechatronic Engineering program. In second and third year, the Mechatronic Engineering courses are designed to provide a strong knowledge base in the core areas of Mechatronic Engineering.
In fourth year, students must complete a major Mechatronic Engineering Design Project, working closely with faculty members and industry partners. This capstone course is an opportunity for students to address real-world design problems using the concepts and practices they have learned.
